Experience an Altered State Naturally
Throughout history, many traditions have studied and left evidence of the exploration of altered states of consciousness. While plant medicine was widely used by the ancients to induce nonordinary states, they discovered other technologies as well. Rattling, drumming, dancing, whirling, chanting and other practices have been cultivated over centuries to awaken a different way of being and perceiving.
✺ What is an altered state?
According to Stan Grof, "Non-ordinary states of consciousness are characterized by dramatic perceptual changes, intense and often unusual emotions, profound alterations in the thought processes and behavior, and by a variety of psychosomatic manifestations."
Throughout history and across cultural contexts, altered states have been an avenue for understanding self and healing the psyche. Non-ordinary states of consciousness may be induced via hypnosis, breathwork, repetition (such as drumming, rattling, and various movement practices), or by ingesting psychedelic substances.
Asheville Center for Inner Healing, offers psychological and physical methods of inducing an altered state of consciousness for the purpose of healing trauma, including hypnotherapy, breathwork and EMDR.
The Center for Inner Healing is blazing new trails in ketamine-assisted psychotherapy as the first legal psychedelic retreat center of its kind.
We are one of the first providers in western North Carolina to offer ketamine-assisted psychotherapy from competent, experienced and highly-trained psychedelic-assisted psychotherapists.
We are still the only facility in the region to offer ketamine-assisted psychotherapy in a holistic and immersive retreat format.

The legality of psychedelic-assisted therapy varies depending on the country and jurisdiction. In some places, specific psychedelic substances may be classified as controlled substances, making their therapeutic use illegal. However, in recent years, there has been a growing interest in the therapeutic potential of psychedelics, leading to ongoing research and changes in legislation in some regions. It's essential to stay informed about the legal status of psychedelic therapy in your area and seek treatment from licensed and authorized practitioners.

Psychedelic therapy sessions are carefully planned and structured to ensure safety and efficacy. Before the session, clients undergo thorough screening to assess their physical and mental health, ensuring they are suitable candidates for the therapy. During the session, the psychedelic substance is administered under the supervision of trained professionals in a controlled setting. Clients are supported throughout the experience by therapists or facilitators who provide guidance and emotional support. After the session, there is an integration phase where clients work with the therapist to process and make sense of their psychedelic experience and apply any insights gained to their daily lives.

Psychedelic-assisted therapy has shown promise in the treatment of various mental health conditions, including treatment-resistant depression, anxiety disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), addiction, and existential distress. Research studies and clinical trials are ongoing to explore the potential benefits of psychedelic therapy for different conditions, and the results so far have been encouraging.

Psychedelic therapy is generally considered safe when conducted under appropriate conditions and with trained professionals. The therapy's safety is emphasized through rigorous screening processes, careful preparation, and the presence of experienced therapists during the session. However, like any therapeutic intervention, there may be potential risks and side effects. These can include challenging emotional experiences during the session, temporary increases in anxiety, or physical discomfort. That's why it's crucial to receive psychedelic therapy from licensed and qualified practitioners who prioritize safety and provide adequate support.

Psychedelic therapy may not be suitable for everyone. Individuals with certain medical conditions, a history of psychosis or severe mental health disorders, or those taking specific medications may not be eligible for this type of therapy. The screening process before therapy helps identify potential contraindications and ensures that the treatment is safe and appropriate for each individual. It's essential to be open and honest during the screening process and discuss any concerns with the therapy provider.

If you've had negative experiences with psychedelics in the past, it's completely understandable to have concerns. Psychedelic-assisted therapy is different from recreational or unguided psychedelic use. Trained therapists are present to provide support and guidance throughout the session, creating a safe and structured environment to help you navigate your experience. They will take into account your previous encounters with psychedelics and tailor the therapy to address your specific needs and concerns. With the right setting and professional assistance, psychedelic-assisted therapy may offer a different and potentially healing perspective compared to previous encounters.
Ketamine-assisted psychotherapy is different from traditional psychedelics, as it is typically administered at lower doses in a controlled therapeutic setting. The therapy sessions are carefully guided by trained professionals who create a safe and supportive environment. Additionally, ketamine's unique pharmacological properties may offer a different and potentially more manageable experience compared to other psychedelics.

I am an out-of-network provider, so I do not participate directly with insurance panels. I find they limit therapeutic options, collect client information I consider extremely sensitive, and require me to spend substantial time filing claims and making phone calls.
I am happy to supply you with a monthly superbill (a type of receipt) to submit for out-of-network coverage. Please check with your insurance company in advance by asking the following when you call the number on the back of your insurance card:
-What percentage is reimbursed for each out-of-network psychotherapy session? (CPT billing code 90837)
-Is there a limit on the number of sessions covered per calendar year?
-Do I need to meet a deductible before I can receive reimbursement?-Do I need preauthorization for psychotherapy or a referral from my primary care physician?
A note about insurance: Documentation sent to health insurance companies becomes part of an individual’s permanent record. Some people do not want a mental health diagnosis on their record. You can check with your insurance carrier whether you can use your health savings or flexible spending account without providing such information. If needed, I can generate a superbill minus the diagnostic code.
